This September, CapeGate has said that it is shining a light on three of its ongoing CSI initiatives, Cupcakes for Kids with Cancer, the Santa Shoebox Project and the CapeGate x The Princess Project.
These three of CapeGate's ongoing CSI initiatives, Cupcakes for Kids with Cancer, the Santa Shoebox Project and the CapeGate x The Princess Project, are aimed at addressing a different need, but all built around the same idea: that small acts of generosity can have a lasting impact, says the centre.
"Community is at the heart of what we do at CapeGate," says Amanda McCarthy, Acting Marketing Manager at CapeGate Shopping Centre. "These initiatives give our shoppers, tenants and the wider community practical ways to get involved. Whether it is buying a cupcake, pledging a Santa Shoebox or donating a pre-loved dress, every contribution matters."
A sweet way to support children with cancer
Through Cupcakes for Kids with Cancer, CapeGate invites shoppers to support children and families affected by childhood cancer while enjoying a little something sweet.
The initiative aims to turn a simple cupcake into an opportunity to contribute towards the cause, bringing together the CapeGate community in support of children who are facing an incredibly difficult journey, says the centre.
It also aims to be a reminder that giving does not always have to be complicated. Sometimes, it can start with something as simple as choosing a cupcake and knowing that the purchase can help make a difference, adds the centre.
Bringing Festive Joy to Children Through Santa Shoebox
As the festive season approaches, CapeGate says it is also encouraging its community to get behind the Santa Shoebox Project.
The project aims to give individuals and families an opportunity to prepare a personalised shoebox filled with carefully selected gifts and essentials for a child. Each box can become a tangible expression of care, showing a child that someone has taken the time to choose something especially for them during the festive season, says the centre.
CapeGate says it has opened the opportunity for shoppers to pledge their Santa Shoeboxes, with guidance available to help donors choose appropriate contents, pack their boxes and get them to the correct drop-off point.
The initiative aims to reflect the power of collective giving. One box may feel like a small gesture, but when a community comes together, those individual gestures can reach thousands of children, says the centre.
Helping Every Matriculant Have Her Princess Moment
For CapeGate, giving back also means helping young people experience important milestones with confidence and dignity.
Through its partnership with The Princess Project, CapeGate collects pre-loved evening dresses, formal shoes and accessories for matriculants who may otherwise be unable to afford the clothing needed for their matric farewell, says the centre.
CapeGate has been involved with The Princess Project since 2022. Previous campaigns have seen hundreds of dresses donated, adds the centre.
The model aims to be impactful because formalwear can be returned after a matric farewell and prepared for another young woman, allowing one act to create ongoing impact.
The initiative has also received industry recognition, with the CapeGate Princess Project previously receiving a Silver Award and special recognition at the SACSC Footprint Marketing Awards, says the centre.
Everyone Has a Role to Play
While these three initiatives support different causes, they aim to share a common thread: making it easy for the community to give back. CapeGate says it is encouraging shoppers to get involved with the initiative that speaks to them and, where possible, support all three.
"We often underestimate what a small gesture can mean to someone else," says McCarthy. "Our CSI initiatives are about creating those moments and giving our community the opportunity to be part of something bigger than themselves."
CapeGate concludes by encouraging the public to find out more about each initiative, get involved and help turn everyday acts of generosity into meaningful community impact.
